The package includes 21 solar energy contracts for 619 MW, 32 contracts for hydro projects of 385 MW and two contracts with wind power developers for 152.5 MW. The remainder represents new geothermal and biomass projects.
Currently, Honduras’ power demand reaches up to 1,280 MW, 50% of which is supplied by clean energy plants, the company said.
In 2014, the country saw the 24-MW expansion of Globeleq Mesoamerica’s Cerro de Hula wind farm and the construction of a 50-MW wind plant in San Marcos. Additionally, the sector powered up 49.3 MW of hydroelectric units, mainly La Vegona (38.5 MW), and a biomass plant of 18.6 MW.
