Honduras Launches Internet for All

The presidential appointed Minister of the Presidency, María Antonieta Guillén on Monday attended the launch of “Internet for All” at the Vicente Cáceres Central Institute.  Internet for All is an initiative to bring internet connectivity free of charge to Honduras’s most vulnerable social areas, and improve the educational opportunities for the children of our country.

The project is made possible due to regulations requiring all internet service providers and computer access networks to provide the equivalent to five percent of their business customers free high-speed access for use in schools, colleges, humanitarian centers, or similar community service centers located in its coverage area, whether urban or rural.

Minister Guillén said that nobody can take away the right to anyone to make or take, it is something that lasts forever and that this initiative students are more easily able to prepare for your future. He stressed that with the “Internet for All”, students will have the opportunity to use this tool so that every day you can learn more. He announced that in three weeks, the government will donate a digital tablet by student race that computer learning center, in order to give their utensils. “Not just about to say or do what others want to hear, it’s about doing what you have to do, I invite you to continue staying with constant energy but do not forget that you learn only what is assimilated what will serve them for their future, “he said. Moreover, the president commissioner of the National Telecommunications Commission (CONATEL), Ricardo Cardona, said that to date there are almost 37 000 students of schools and public schools in six regions of the country enjoying high speed internet free. He said that if it complies with the rules of this law is expected to add 30,000 more students in the rest of the year. Cardona explained that this project implements CONATEL the order of the President Pepe Lobo of raising the level of education of children and youth with limited economic resources using the technology. For his part, the Minister of Education, Marlon Escoto said that this program is an extremely useful business tool to achieve quality education for children and young people who have no eligibility for the free internet in their schools. So far this initiative is present in schools and government offices civil support Chest Hospital, the Honduran Institute for Children and Families (INHFA) and the National Police in the departments of Francisco Morazán, Cortes, Olancho, Lempira , Valle and Choluteca, and is soon expected to reach Yoro, Comayagua, Santa Barbara, Copan, Ocotepeque, Lempira and Intibucá.
