The traditional ceremony was held in the Morazán salon of the presidential house. President Lobo was accompanied by the First Lady, Rosa Elena Lobo, Foreign Minister Arturo Corrales, his wife Patricia Corrales, and the entire government cabinet.

The Honduran president said he will continue to work to strengthen international relations, improve the living conditions of the population, ensure greater public safety, and efficiently manage public finances.

“Our people are suffering much from poverty, insecurity, problems in education, and poor health. These are challenges that we face as a nation, and that as the government, we must do our corresponding part,” he said.

President Lobo also called for all public officials, beginning with him, to understand that it is fundamental that government decisions centralize on the human person, putting first the interest of those who have historically lived in its exclusion and marginalization.

“This is about redoubling our efforts so that our people can live better,” he said.

The president also ensured that the next new year, the greeting of the foreign diplomats will be held by his successor, after an electoral process that will support and defend the welfare of democracy and its institution in Honduras.

“Which means that Honduras is a normal democratic development, and that you can be certain that we support the strengthening of democracy and its institutional basis, and that we have respect for the Constitution and our laws, though of course, there are issues of its interpretation,” he said.

Finally, the President reiterated to the accredited diplomats in the country, that the government keeps its doors open to any suggestions.

“We are open to listen, and to explain any decision of our government; believe me, we appreciate your presence,” he said.
