The Public Ministry (MP – Ministerio Público) is investigating more than 58 prosecutors for irregularities in the exercise of their function.

A Comptroller Committee began an investigation against the prosecutors, who were asked to the National Commission of Banking and Insurance (CNBS – Comisión Nacional de Banca y Seguros) to report on their bank accounts. The cases are being investigated by the new special unit created by the current attorney general, public prosecutors, and auditors.
CNBS said that in a list of over 58 prosecutors being investigated by the MP, 22 fiscal irregularities were found in deposits to their bank accounts.
The Deputy Prosecutor, Rigoberto Cuéllar, confirmed that these are serious investigations, and that in the next few days there will be further allegations presented against prosecutors. “We send a very clear message to all prosecutors: We will not tolerate those who act outside of the law,” he emphasized.
Additionally, in 11 cases, help was requested from the Superior Court of Auditors.
