“Honduras has long been a great partner with New Orleans, and we are honored to be able to provide this service to assist them in combating this epidemic,” said Landrieu. “Continuing to build this relationship benefits both our city as well as the citizens of Honduras.”

In a recent letter to Mayor Landrieu, Honduran President Porfirio Lobo Sosa expressed a commitment to building closer ties between Honduras and the City of New Orleans. Tegucigalpa, which is the capital city of Honduras, and New Orleans have an existing sister city partnership.

Honduran Secretary of State in the Office of Public Works and Transportation Miguel Pastor, on behalf of President Lobo, formally requested Dr. Carroll’s assistance following the outbreak of the Dengue Fever last month. The visit is scheduled from July 22-24, 2010.

Dr. Carroll has over thirty-eight years experience in entomology, with thirty-three of those years spent working for the City of New Orleans. In addition, he has served as a consultant in many other countries over his career. He received his Ph.D. in Botany and Entomology from Louisiana State University. Dr. Carroll has been published in several journals as well as written and co-written many papers related to his field.
