Honduras vs. Costa Rica – Today

Honduras must beat Costa Rica today to remain on course toward a chance at the 2010 South Africa match.

Costa Rica won the first soccer match, 2-0, but Honduran fans are hopeful after last week’s Concacaf Champions League preliminary game, won by Honduras’ Real Espana, 6-0, over Costa Rica’s Liberia Mia, with five Tico internationals.

“Five internationals is a lot for any team, and with such a reputation anyone can be affected,” said former Dallas youth star Ramon Nunez, who now represents Honduras and plays for Mexican club Cruz Azul. “So let’s hope it benefits us and they come with their morale low.”

The Catrachos will again be without star David Suazo, who has been injured but did make an appearance for Inter Milan in last weekend’s Italian Super Cup. In his absence, Carlos Pavon, who scored for Real Espana against Liberia Mia, and Carlo Costly will head the Honduran attack.

Security is expected to be heavy in San Pedro Sula. An estimated 1,000 police will be on duty at the Estadio Olimpico Metropolitano incase supporters of the former president decide to demonstrate at the game.
