Hondutel in Financial Crisis

Authorities in the Honduran Telecommunications Company (Hondutel) presented a report to the governmental transition committee yesterday afternoon, and what they presented was not flattering.

The institution is facing the worst crisis in history due to administrative waste, lack of competitiveness, and embarrassing corruption scandals that left them with multimillion dollar losses. Gray traffic and outlandish salaries are also to blame, and will need to be addressed by the next head of Hondutel. Presenting the report was Inestroza Renan, who has been mentioned as a possible candidate to take over the general management of Hondutel.

Inestroza said he was invited to be present by the elected president, Porfirio Lobo Sosa, and Marie Antoinette Bogran to head the transition committee for the telecommunications area. Inestroza said that does not mean that he is the person defined for the position of General Manager.

“We hope that the authorities, led by manager Carlos Aguilar, gave us transparent figures for the company, because from there we will draw our conclusions and the report we will present,” said Inestroza.

He stated that one of the problems to be immediately aware of, is the amount of temporary staff for who they can not pay salaries and wages for on time, and that this affects the company finances.

Asked is he would assume the challenge of leading an institution with a history of crisis, Inestroza responded saying only if president Porfirio Lobo wants him on his staff, “I will assume this responsibility with great courage.”

The challenges for the company, and members of the transition committee, are to address the expansion of services, improve customer service, improve finances and combat gray traffic in accordance with the social policies of President Porfirio Lobo Sosa.
