IHSS Finance Manager Trial Ends First Day

Yesterday the Supreme Court trial began for the former financial manager of the Honduran Institute of Social Security (Instituto Hondureño de Seguridad Social – IHSS), Ramon Bertetti.

The charges are for bribery, negotiations incompatible with the exercise of public office, fraud and misappropriation of public funds to the detriment of the administration of the Honduran State.

The charges against the former official are specifically for the overvalued purchase of ten modified ambulances.

According to the opinion of an audit performed by three forensic experts, there was an overall overvaluation for the various equipment purchased for the ambulances of seven million 413,000,250 lempiras, and in the end, the ambulances did not have the necessary equipment to be used for the IHSS.

In addition to this indictment, Bertetti faces four more counts of fraud, for the purchase of airline tickets, the transfer of funds to banks, and overvalued Dimesa equipment sold to Social Security.

The public trial will continue on Friday, July 24th, and Tuesday, July 28th.
