Lawyers Support Elections

The Inter-American Lawyers Federation (FIA) will send 17 observers to Honduras at the invitation of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal, reported Renaldy Gutierrez, leader of the mission.

“We received an invitation from the Supreme Electoral Court and the Bar Association of Honduras, a member of our association,” explained Gutierrez, president of a law firm based in Miami (Florida).

The mission will be composed of lawyers from various countries in the region, and has requested interviews with both sides of the political crisis, starting with interim President Roberto Micheletti and Manuel Zelaya.

Lawyers for the FIA, an association founded in 1940, have participated as election observers in other elections in the region, and are not worried about the lack of support for these elections by the international community, said Gutierrez.

“The Bar Association (Honduras) has supported this process of change,” he said.

I realize this is a good move, however, I am so upset that the US and other ‘democratic’ nations have kept blind to what really happened in Honduras; I live in the US but was born in Honduras I love Honduras and have never felt as proud of being Honduran as after June 28; that Honduras stood firm against all the nations; we do not want Chavez or his type of regime – Zelaya should be ashamed of himself he is egotistical and a maniac; hopefully, he will never be in power again and pay for the crimes against the Constitution of this great land.
