New Police Force In Honduras

A new police force has been created to combat organized crime in Honduras. The new force is to be called the Technical Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DTIC), and will be a specialized agency under the Office of the Ministry. They will begin with a budget of 40 million Lempiras.

The new police will investigate crimes. The DTIC will be looking at all forms of organized crime, drug trafficking, kidnapping and related operations, and other complex crimes needing investigation and prosecution.

DTIC officials are governed by the following provisions:

– Shall act under the technical direction of the agents of law, the courts, i.e. prosecutors.

– Benefit from the authority established in the Criminal Procedure Code.

– Has control of the investigation. To fulfill its functions will have the cooperation of the Armed Forces and National Police.

The DTIC shall be under the immediate administration of a director to be appointed by the Attorney General of the Republic, persons will compete for that position.
