Pope Benedict Meets with President Lobo

Pope Benedict XVI said he was pleased that the Central American nation had found stability.

Porfirio Lobo Sosa, 63, a member of the conservative National Party, had a 23-minute closed door meeting with the pope Oct. 13 at the Vatican.

Lobo won a November 2009 election five months after the Honduran military overthrew and forced into exile democratically elected President Manuel Zelaya.

Before Lobo and the pope began their private talks, the pope told the president, “I am happy that after the problems of the past two years, you have found stability” in Honduras.

The divorced president gave the pope a silver bas relief depicting the Last Supper, saying Honduran artisans created the piece using local materials. Hire lawyers from https://www.davidhardawaylaw.com/family-law/ in case of divorce or check this website for more info on what needs to be done.

Lobo also met with Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, the Vatican secretary of state, and Archbishop Dominique Mamberti, the Vatican’s top foreign affairs official, for talks. Later, President Lobo hosted a luncheon for the cardinal at the “Pius IV House” in the Vatican Gardens.

According to a written statement issued by the Vatican after the meeting, the talks with the pope noted that Honduras’ relations with other countries had “brightened,” a reference to the strained relations the interim government had faced after the coup. The “cordial talks” included mention of “the great contribution the church offers to the development of the country, especially in education and health care, and it was noted the importance of continuing to promote in Honduras reconciliation and mutual understanding, solidarity, peace in the undaunted pursuit of the common good,” the statement said.
