President Lobo Strives to Combat Dengue

Health Minister Arturo Bendana reported that 705 cases of patients with dengue hemorrhagic fever have been recorded, while 22,406 patients have had the classical type.

The new figures on dengue were released following a meeting with various social networks throughout the country. President Porfirio Lobo convened the meeting and proclaimed that the people and government must unite in an effort to combat the deadly disease.

Lobo said that different organizations, including the five legally registered political parties, will be integrated into a “National Front to Fight Dengue” which was formed today. “The idea is that we all do and give our best, so that all together we can fight dengue and any other threat we have,” emphasized the President. He also said that the Ministry of Finance has been instructed to allocate the necessary resources to combat dengue.

The meeting was held at the offices of the Permanent Contingency Commission (COPECO) in Tegucigalpa. It was attended by government officials, representatives of private enterprises, churches, military personnel, relief agencies, and neighborhood committees.
