President of Honduras considers IMF funding to be a priority! (More Debt)

IMF Honduras

Honduras President Juan Orlando Hernandez considers IMF loans to be one of the priorities of his economic program since it will open the doors to funds for budgetary support.

An International Monetary Fund (IMF) technical mission has begun an evaluation of the Honduras’ macroeconomic situation, whose results may allow the country to have a future agreement to access more funds.

The team will hold meetings with public and private sectors’ representatives for the next two weeks, according to the agreement reached last week in Washington by the IMF and officials from the Honduran government.

In Washington, both parties agreed on evaluating the country’s macroeconomic situation and then starting negotiations for the signing of a Letter of Intent.

The Letter of Intent has been considered by the current Honduran president Juan Orlando Hernandez to be one of the priorities of his economic program since it will open the doors to funds for budgetary support. (Great let’s get in more debt!)

The IMF will work in Honduras until April 8th, gathering economic and financial information and analyzing the country’s evolution and economic policies and anti-corruption policies.

The results of the visit will be made public next June 9th, but the government has stated that no agreement will be signed until a coherent economic policy, with balanced budget and tax plan, is structured.
