A home over 100 years old was consumed by fire in the neighborhood Los Andes in San Pedro Sula at around 8 o’clock this morning. Not much was left, despite the fact that firefighters arrived quickly to the scene. A keychain from 1962 with the image of the Virgin of Guadalupe is almost all that remains.

The house was located between first and second street, at 14th Avenue, in the vicinity of the exclusive San Pedro Sula Crown Plaza hotel.

One member of the group of firefighters (Cuerpo de Bomberos), Ely Velásquez, asserted that the fire was controlled promptly, and thankfully, there were no people in the house at the time, and no injuries.

The house was swiftly consumed by flames, due to its entire construction being of easy burning wood. The fire station was only two blocks from the accident, and firefighters were able to contain the flames, so they did not spread to neighboring properties.

The home had not been lived in for quite some time, according to María del Carmen Hugartegui de Mancía, sister of the owner.
