According to Mercados & Tendencias, the executive disclosed that a total investment of up to USD30 million will be ploughed into the new network, which will be capable of offering maximum download speeds of 20Mbps.
As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, in October 2013 Tigo was awarded LTE-suitable spectrum y telecoms regulator Comision Nacional de Telecomunicaciones (Conatel), comprising 2×20MHz paired blocks in the 1710MHz-1730MHz and 2110MHz-2130MHz bands; the company paid USD12.055 million for the authorisation. Under the terms set out by the licence, Tigo is required to establish and operate a 4G network in all major cities by 2016, equivalent to 15% of the country’s territory.
