Tropical Storm Matthew in Honduras

The COPECO declared a red alert for six departments on the Atlantic coast of Honduras:
Gracias a Dios, Colón, the Bay Islands, Atlántida, Yoro, and Olancho.

Thousands of people were evacuated before the entrance of Tropical Storm Matthew. Radio reports say they are experiencing heavy rains in two departments of Honduras that border Nicaragua: Gracias a Dios, with some 70,000 inhabitants, and Olancho, a vast mountainous region and home to half a million people.

There is sporadic rainfall in the Bay Islands, a light drizzling mixed with the intermittent downpour. Winds are moderate.

It is expected that at night Matthew will reach San Estaban, while Saturday it would affect the areas of El Aguán and Yoro, in northern Honduras.

All other departments are under Yellow Alert.

Matthew is expected to leave Honduras on Sunday.

Also, the National Football League has postponed matches planned for Saturday and Sunday.
