Unusual Honduran Delivery

Carlos Rosa was doing his regular job of carting corpses from a Honduran morgue when he was suddenly called upon to bring a new life into the world. An unidentified pregnant woman was walking from her neighborhood in a Tegucigalpa outlying area to a hospital to give birth, when she went into labor in front of the city morgue.

Mr. Rosa discovered the woman on the ground, and called other morgue employees to help put her into the hearse to drive her to the hospital.

But the vehicle got stuck in heavy traffic, and Rosa’s paramedic training was put to the test when the woman’s water broke. The delivery went smoothly, although the morgue worker couldn’t cut the umbilical cord for lack of a scalpel in the hearse.

Paramedics at the hospital transferred mother and child to the maternity ward, where they were reported to be in good health.

The proud parents decided to name the baby girl Rosa, in honor of the man who came to the rescue and helped bring her into the world.
