US Government Van with Hondurans Aboard Crashes

US Government Van with Hondurans Aboard CrashesA blown tire has caused a federal van transporting Honduran immigrants to roll off a South Texas highway, injuring 10.

Texas Department of Public Safety Cpl. Charlie Ramirez said two agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement were hospitalized early Tuesday along with eight immigrants who had entered the country illegally. The crash occurred on U.S. 77 near Driscoll.

Ramirez says the U.S. Customs and Border Protection van was en route to Corpus Christi International Airport where the immigrants were to fly back to Honduras.

The van’s left rear tire blew out, sending it skidding off the highway, across a ditch and flipping over multiple times in a muddy field. Ramirez said two of the immigrants were ejected, but all of the passengers were expected to survive.
