The increase in overall water is slight, but it is certainly a ray of hope in the midst of the drought that has been experienced throughout the Tegucigalpa area for months, forcing authorities to implement rationing.
“In three hours on Friday, the rain increased the Los Laureles dam by 45 thousand cubic meters, and there was more rain on Saturday,” said Danilo Alvarado, manager of the National Autonomous Service of Aqueducts and Sewers (SANAA).
Officials of the National Meteorological Service (SMN) said the storm on Saturday began at 7:00 pm and ended at 2:00 am on Sunday. The sky was almost entirely overcast and people experienced decreased temperatures in recent days.
To fill the dams to normal capacity, Honduras would need continuous rain for several weeks. That would be disadvantageous, however, as flooding would result and could put 135 districts and neighborhoods at risk.
