Yellow Alert in Costal Regions

The Honduras towns of Cedeno, Los Delgaditos y El Eden, are under yellow alert due to heavy rainfall and the flooding that has ensued.

Some 350 families experienced damage to their homes on Saturday, and at least 1,500 people were affected by waves as high as 12 feet crashing onto the beaches.

The declaration of a yellow alert came after the head of the Permanent Contingency Commission (COPECO), Lisandro Rosales, verified damage the storms have caused.

Rosales said the alert was declared because according to the National Meteorological Service (SMN), high tidal conditions continue to prevail in the Gulf of Fonseca, and it is necessary to alert the population in order to save lives.
