Zelaya Plans to Return Thursday

Jose Miguel Insulza, Secretary General of the OAS, has offered to travel with ex-president of Honduras, Manuel Zelaya back to the country of Honduras to reclaim Mr. Zelaya’s presidency.

Other executives of SICA, ALBA and the Grupo de Río (River Group) who have met with Zelaya have been invited as well.

Zelaya plans to travel to Honduras on Thursday, as he is meeting with the UN and the OAS over the next few days.

Guatemala, Nicaragua and El Salvador have decided to suspend business relations with the current government of Honduras for 48 hours. SICA recalled their Ambassadors to Honduras, and ordered their ambassadors to suspend all loans and payments to the Honduran Government, since it is not headed by Zelaya.

SICA participants stated that they will gradually take “the necessary measures” until Zelaya is reinstated.

    hola,
I do not get the situation. my girlfriend’s Honduran and I understand that people don’t like Zelaya; I do not see anything wrong in his iniatiative of asking the people with the help of a referendum about the presidential credentials. allowing more than one mandate/person doesn’t mean automatic re-election. it’s neighbours are mistakenly punishing some good economic relations introducing this temporarly embargo.
