Xiomara Castro Zelaya, 50, was admitted with fever type symptoms, and underwent tests for dengue and malaria, which were negative. She is under observation by doctors, and progressing.
The center’s director, José Araujo Vidal, said the former first lady had a fever caused by a virus that is known in the Caribbean. He added that Mrs. Zelaya has traveled extensively as of late, and it is most likely that the virus was acquired during her travels.
Xiomara Castro Zelaya has been accompanied at the hospital by her husband, Manuel Zelaya.
