Honduras Ex-President Rafael Callejas Will Turn Himself Over to the USA over FIFAGate Corruption

Arturo Corrales Alvarez, Honduras Chancellor, confirmed this morning that former President Rafael Leonardo Callejas, will turn himself over to United States authorities.

Former Honduras President Rafael Leonardo Callejas Romero is accu=sed of receiving 600,000 dollars in bribes from the World Media company leading to charges in the USA and a request for his extradition from Honduras.

The Honduras Supreme Court designated Judge Edith María López Rivera on Wednesday to review and decide on the USA’ss extradition request. The National Jurisdictional judge is scheduled to decide tomorrow Tuesday December 15, 2015 whether she supports the request for the extradition of the ex-president.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office revealed that both Callejas and the now-suspended President of Concacaf Alfredo Hawit (arrested in Switzerland) received 600,000 dollars in bribes from the World Media company, aiming to win the rights of transmission and marketing of the national team of Honduras. Like Callejas, 15 officials and former officials of Fifa are accused by corruption scandals.

The Honduras Supreme Court will be presented with the background justifying the request for extradition of Callejas and the type of accusations that would lead him to face American justice later today and or early tomorrow morning.

Update: As of a few moments ago (9:00 AM Honduras Local Time) Official announcement to the press was made that Rafael Callejas boarded a private flight to the USA around 6:30 AM to turn himself over to USA authorities.
